Michael Schmich

Workforce Development | Operational Excellence

Michael Schmich is a trainer, training designer, and consultant who has worked in manufacturing, education, and training since 1975, both nationally and internationally —in places such as Mexico, Japan, Brazil, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

In the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) system, he was instrumental in implementing a $3.2 Million Department of Labor grant to bring Lean Enterprise strategies to the food processing industry. He developed and delivered training courses such as Lean Essentials for limited English speakers in the industry so they could participate in Lean training and Kaizen activities conducted in English.

In the Community College Customized Workforce Training system, he has trained Spanish-speaking supervisors in several different industries and was a lead instructor on a contract with the Intel Corporation in developing and implementing a worldwide language standardization program for maintenance technicians.

He is a certified instructor of Training Within Industry (TWI) in both Spanish and English, courses aimed at developing supervisors' skills in instructing, leading other workers, and the continuous improvement of job methods.
