Manufacturing Day, or MFG Day, is a national event on the first Friday in October each year. This dedicated day raises awareness of modern manufacturing and its importance to the economy. In Washington State, MFG Day is crucial to manufacturers as it helps them showcase their innovative products, manufacturing processes, and skilled workforce.
Washington is home to a diverse range of manufacturers, including aerospace, technology, food and beverage, and medical device manufacturers. These companies employ thousands of people, contribute billions of dollars to the state economy, and drive innovation and competitiveness in the global marketplace.
MFG Day allows all manufacturers to open their doors to the public and showcase their work. Through facility tours, open houses, and other events, manufacturers can give visitors a firsthand look at their operations, products, and technologies. This openness helps to demystify the manufacturing process and educates the public about the career opportunities available in the industry.
In addition to raising awareness of manufacturing, MFG Day also helps to address the industry's skilled workforce shortage. As baby boomers retire, there is a growing need for younger workers to fill their shoes. However, many young people are unaware of the opportunities available in manufacturing or do not have the skills needed to succeed in the industry. By participating in MFG Day, manufacturers can inspire and educate the next generation of workers, build relationships with other manufacturers, and promote the industry's important role in the state's economy.
