For most of its 18-plus years of existence, Impact Washington, the manufacturing extension organization for the state, has been based in Mukilteo.

As of June 1, though, Impact Washington will call the North Creek area of Bothell in Snohomish County home.

Impact Washington is moving to a 3,300-square-foot space in the Monte Villa Farms development, home to high-tech companies such as BioLife Solutions and Panasonic Avionics.

The old location, near Paine Field Boulevard, had about 2,000 square feet of space. The new location will provide more room for meetings and training, and should be more convenient for Impact Washington’s consultants, clients, and partner organizations and agencies, says Loren Lyon, president.

The move to a larger space is part of an overall plan to increase Impact Washington’s size and reach as an organization. Lyon said IW, which provides consulting and advisory services to small and medium-sized manufacturers on lean processes and market expansion, currently serves about 160 clients yearly. In the next four years, that total will double.

“This is a year where we start to ramp up in personnel, space, and deliverables,” he said. “2017 will be a gangbuster year.”

To accomplish that IW has hired a consultant to serve Western Washington from Snohomish County north. Stephen Winters, an operations-management instructor at Western Washington University, has held numerous positions in private industry and is a former IW board member.

Impact Washington is also close to hiring a consultant to work with clients serving Eastern Washington.

The organization has an annual budget of about $5 million from federal funds, client fees, and state training contracts.
